Australia secures QF berth

September 25, 2018 | Townsville Fire news

Australia has advanced directly through to the quarter-finals of the FIBA World Cup after finishing unbeaten through the opening pool games.

Hoping to replicate their gold medal from 2006, the Chemist Warehouse Opals continued their dominant form against Turkey as they registered a convincing win.

JCU Townsville Fire star Tess Madgen continued her steady form as she posted three points, three assists and a rebound in the 90-64 victory.

With the pool winners advancing directly through to the quarter-finals, the Opals will now await the outcome of the qualification games before determining their opponent for the knockout section of the tournament.

A win in their next game will guarantee the Opals with an opportunity to medal by reaching the final four.

Once again former Melbourne star Liz Cambage was the difference for the Opals as the MVP candidate registered 25 points and seven rebounds.

The Opals will enjoy some much-needed rest before entering the final phase of the World Cup.

FOX SPORTS Australia will broadcast all Australian games live and exclusive including the medal games.
