Batkovic remains a wait-and-see proposition

The JCU Townsville Fire are no closer to learning whether superstar centre Suzy Batkovic will return this week.

Having missed last week’s loss against Adelaide with a neck injury, the six-time Chemist Warehouse WNBL MVP remains a week-to-week proposition.

A nerve issue has led to a loss of power in her left-arm which has limited Batkovic to just five minutes of play in the past fortnight.

While the Fire captain is desperate to return to lead the club’s title defence, head coach Claudia Brassard said there was no definitive timeline for the inspirational skipper.

“She’s gone back for another MRI to see if there’s any improvement in the swelling of that nerve, we don’t have the results of that back yet,” Brassard said yesterday.

“She’s in less pain which is a bonus, it’s just that power issue (in her arm) is still on the rise there.

“If we get her (back) it’s a bonus, (but) she hasn’t had any fitness for the last ten days.

“At this stage we’re preparing to play without her.”

The Fire host Perth at Townsville Stadium on Friday night and are desperate to return to the winners’ list ahead of the Christmas break.
