Cocks promises no respite
Rachael Sporn Medallist Micaela Cocks has promised there will be no respite against Adelaide on Saturday as the JCU Townsville Fire hit the road.
Just a fortnight ago, the Fire obliterated the Lightning 84-42 in Townsville before downing Bendigo by 35-points at the weekend.
With the Lightning having dropped from first to fourth, Cocks, who won two championships playing under Chris Lucas, knows all too well that her opponents this week will be out for revenge and desperate to keep their own mini-series alive.
“Everyone’s feeling really good but we’re not getting complacent,” Cocks said.
“We know Adelaide’s going to be tough and they won’t want to have another loss like the last one, but we’ve got to make sure we’re above and beyond.
“I don’t know if they’ll be angry, but I know they’ll be much more alert.”
With the Fire (6-3) poised to play four of their next five games on the road, the positions inside the top-four are at a premium with the Lightning (6-4) snapping at their heels.
A win this weekend, however, will provide a small cushion, and more importantly, head-to-head against their opponents.
“We know Chris will get his team prepared and they’ll change things up, no doubt,” Fire coach Claudia Brassard said.
“We watched that Adealide game and it was one of those games where they couldn’t do anything right.
“They’re a top-four team and that’s what we’re getting ready for.
“We’re about to hit another tough part of the season with a few doubles in a row. It’s really important we got the job done when we had singles.”
The Fire face the Lightning at Adelaide Arena on Saturday from 2pm.
