Cocks to captain the Fire

December 7, 2018 | Townsville Fire news

Three-time JCU Townsville Fire championship winner Micaela Cocks will captain the club tonight in Suzy Batkovic’s absence.

Earlier today, the six-time Chemist Warehouse WNBL MVP was unable to pass a fitness test, snapping a 142-game playing streak since returning to the Fire in 2013/14.

Batkovic received treatment for an ongoing neck issue earlier this week, but has not seen enough improvement to suit up tonight against Adelaide.

In her absence, Cocks, the 2015/16 Rachael Sporn Medallist, will lead the Fire for the first time.

Since joining the club in 2011/12, the New Zealand Olympian has represented the Fire on 193 occasions – second behind Rachael McCully (228) on the club’s all-time games’ list – and has played a key role in their championship success.

The Fire host the Lightning at Townsville Stadium from 7pm tonight.
