Community Camp in the Regions
Fire in the regions
The JCU Townsville Fire continue their bid to provide Positive, Healthy Female Role Models to the North Queensland Regions – and are heading to Charters Towers to host a free 3 day Community Camp, which focuses on mental health, nutrition, goal setting and offering children from across the region direct access to professional female sporting stars.
The program is one of Townsville Fire’s key community programs, with support from the Queensland Government to assist in addressing youth unemployment, education, health and wellbeing and being active and resilient.
The Fire expects up to 90 attendees to the camp which will have an action-packed schedule, from basic basketball skills on the court with Fire Players and Coaching staff, to mental wellbeing activations supported by kids helpline.
The Community Camp ambassador is Fire Point Guard and recently announced Opals player Shyla Heal, who will be joined by a number of the Fire players across the three days.
Townsville Fire will ensure the Community Camp provides a COVID-safe experience for all attendees in line with current Public Health Directions. COVID-safe planning has been an integral part of the wider Townsville Fire Community Youth Program and will continue to be a key part of all event planning.
Townsville Fire General Manager Sam Pascoe said the club is focused on providing positive, healthy, female role models and exposing the next generation of North Queenslanders to leading a healthy lifestyle.
“There is something really special about being able to head into the regions and connect with the Kids from Charters Towers and surrounds, the community camp touches on a lot of issues facing the youth of today, mixed in with a lot of fun and run by some of the countries greatest female athletes”
The Community Camp is scheduled to be held in the upcoming school holidays, from September 21-23.
