Donnelly lights up QBL

June 18, 2018 | Townsville Fire news

Mikhaela Donnelly has lit up the QBL to start this week’s Winter Update.

The championship winning point-guard was simply brilliant at the weekend as she led Logan to a 1-1 split.

While the Townsville Flames got the better of the Thunder on Saturday night, Donnelly top-scored with 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Zitina Aokuso narrowly missed her eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and nine boards in the 72-97 loss.

The next day Donnelly found another gear, however, as she recorded 28 points, four rebounds and 13 assists as the Thunder defeated Gold Coast 107-86.

Aokuso finished with 17 points and three rebounds in the 21-point win.

The Flames bounced back after last week’s shock loss to Brisbane with a pair of road wins over Logan and Ipswich.

Fresh off being named in the Opals squad, Darcee Garbin chalked up 28 points, seven rebounds and three assists against the Thunder, while Micaela Cocks contributed 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Garbin then out-muscled the Force as she posted a team-high 24 points and 11 rebounds to clinch a 98-82 win.

Cocks finished with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

North Gold Coast were on the wrong side of a 51-71 ledger against Mackay.

New signing Casey Samuels was restricted to just two points, but still managed seven boards and four assists.

Through nine games, Samuels is averaging 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the first-year club.

In the SEABL, Tess Madgen continues to show her class with another ultra-impressive performance for the Rangers.

The Opals playmaker top-scored in the Rangers’ 89-62 win over Albury as she tallied 19 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals.

The Fire will announce a ninth signing tomorrow ahead of memberships going on sale to the general public.
