FIRE HOSTS TOP TEAM TO SEE OUT 2024
FIRE HOSTS TOP TEAM TO SEEOUT 2024
The Fire’s annual December 31st home game has become a must make event on any Townsville New Year’s Eve checklist and a battling Bendigo to see out 2024 is no different. There’ll be no need to wait until midnight to see fireworks with the hosts trying to secure a fourth straight win against the WNBL ladder leaders looking to remain in first spot. 2 tussles already this season have gone the way of the table toppers who prevailed home and away in hard fought contests. Former Fire Captain Sami Whitcomb provided the Spirit’s spark on both occasions, so it’s no surprise Townsville’s coach has made limiting her impact a priority.
“We’ve let Sami average about32 and half points against us so far, so obviously trying to slow her down is going to be key.”
Whitcomb won’t be the only player who’ll receive a plenty of attention.
“Kelsey Griffin ‘s back and starting to find her form as well. So they’re loaded and they’re the top team for a reason. We’ve been close a couple of times, so hopefully we can just tidy up a few of those things, put in a really good performance and give it a crack.”
The Coach also provided an updated on if Lauren Mansfield will suit up after the Co-captain sat out Sunday’s victory over Geelong.
“She’s got a bit of a hamstring complaint, she was close to playing United, hopefully she’ll line up but time will tell, she will have a fitness test on Game Day.”
He certainly doesn’t want Fire fans to keep their lips sealed, in fact quite the contrary. Seebohm suggesting a loud orange army on what’s a special occasion could provide an extra edge for his team, in what’s expected to be another tight tussle.
“Yeah definitely, always! New Year’s Eve is normally a pretty good game here so hopefully we get a good turn out and they can really get behind the girls and help us hopefully get over the line.”
