Fire laud free-to-air TV deal
The JCU Townsville Fire will return to free-to-air television next month after FOX SPORTS Australia reached an agreement to simulcast the up-coming Chemist Warehouse WNBL season with SBS.
In addition to the FOX SPORTS coverage, SBS will simulcast nine regular season games on Saturday afternoons including the Fire’s round three blockbuster against Sydney Uni at Townsville Stadium.
The WNBL’s fiercest rivalry will be shown on both networks when Bendigo hosts the Fire on Saturday, November 24.
A week later they will both show the Grand Final replay between Melbourne and Townsville from the Victorian State Basketball Centre.
The Boomers’ round six clash against the Fire will be shown live and exclusive on FOX SPORTS.
Having won three of the past four WNBL titles, Fire General Manager Richard Goodbody welcomed today’s announcement and said the club look forward to returning to free-to-air in 2018/19.
“FOX SPORTS has become the home of Australian basketball in recent years, but it is an exciting announcement for all fans to see free-to-air coverage in 2018/19,” Goodbody said.
“The announcement will extend the reach of the WNBL across Australia.
“I’m sure it will be viewed favourably by our members, fans and commercial partners.”
The Fire officially commence pre-season yesterday, with the reigning WNBL champions poised to unveil their championship banner at Townsville Stadium on Sunday, October 14.
