Fire looking for immediate response

November 29, 2017 | Townsville Fire news

The JCU Townsville Fire will look to make a statement tonight when they face Dandenong on the road.

Having seen their four-game winning streak end at the hands of the Lynx at the weekend, the Fire have been handed a golden opportunity to make amends immediately with a mid-week clash against the Rangers.

The WNBL ladder-leaders will be desperate to atone for a round three loss in the same venue, and are well aware, that they must prevail tonight in order to keep their mini-series alive.

“It was a bit of a hiccup,” Fire assistant Rachael McCully said.

“We’ve got the opportunity to make amends immediately, and defensively, is where the game is going to be won or loss.

“It’s a bit of a danger game for us – we know what they are capable of given our loss there earlier in the season.”

While the Fire remain on top of the ladder, the Lynx and the Sydney Uni Flames – who will host the Fire on Saturday afternoon – have drawn level on 8-4 records and are snapping at their heels.

Dandenong will be desperate to snap a worrying form streak that has seen last year’s grand finalists lose four of their past five games, as well as superstar swingman Sara Blicavs to an ACL injury.

The Fire and the Rangers tip-off at 6.30pm tonight with the game live streamed on the Fox Sports Australia website.
