Fire nominated for Queensland Sport Awards
The JCU Townsville Fire has been nominated for the XXXX Gold Sports Team of the Year at the up-coming Queensland Sport Awards.
Fresh off winning their third WNBL title in four seasons, the Fire, who defeated Melbourne 2-1 to lift the trophy aloft, will contend with six other teams for the honour.
They are:
- Australian Women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay team;
- Brisbane Bandits Men’s baseball team;
- Brisbane Broncos Women’s rugby league team;
- Brisbane Roar Women’s soccer team;
- Queensland Men’s cricket team; and
- Sunshine Coast Lightning Women’s netball team.
In addition, Claudia Brassard has been nominated for the Coach of the Year Award after leading the Fire to victory, along with championship success with the Townsville Heat in the QBL and a gold medal with the Australian Sapphires at the Oceania Championships.
The winners will be announced on Wednesday, November 28 at a black-tie dinner in the Plaza Ballroom at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
