FIRE NOMINATED FOR QUEENSLAND SPORT TEAM OF THE YEAR
Having lifted the WNBL trophy in late March, The Fire could claim another major honour at the end of this month. Townsville is a contender to be crowned team of the year at the 2023 Queensland Sports Awards, alongside some stiff competition such as the Brisbane Broncos and the female Maroons.
While the Fire’s feat may have happened some time ago, in comparison to the more recent achievements of other sides nominated, a sweet 16 successive wins, culminating in the ultimate glory isn’t easily forgotten. Townsville coach Shannon Seebohm is delighted his team has received a significant acknowledgement for a phenomenal season, which delivered the club its fourth championship.
“It is a great recognition to be nominated for the Queensland sport team of the year. A lot of hard work has been put in by our players and staff to accomplish what we did and we are very honoured and proud to be a candidate for this award.”
The coach couldn’t be happier for General Manager Sam Pascoe who has been nominated for Queensland Sports Administrator of 2023.
“I’m extremely pleased for Sam, she is an extremely hard working person who always goes above and beyond to make sure that the team and myself always have exactly what we need in order to prepare and perform our best. She is great to work for and would be an extremely deserving winner.”
Pascoe who’s been in the role since 2019, oversaw accomplishments off the court matching success on it. Bumper crowds filled the Fire Pit and a new home attendance record was set when Townsville hosted the Flyers in game one of the grand final series.
The Queensland Sports Awards Winners will be announced in Brisbane on November 30.
