Fire poised for Lynx test

The JCU Townsville Fire will get their first real test of pre-season tonight when they host the Perth Lynx at the Wilmar Sugar Burdekin Blitz.

The Lynx touched down in Townsville last night with their new-look squad which contains former Fire forwards Kayla Standish and Olivia Thompson, along with WNBL MVP runner-up, Sami Whitcomb.

The Fire will go into tonight and tomorrow night’s game with their full squad except for Cayla George and Sydney Wiese, who just clashed in the WNBA semi-finals.

The Fire are expected to suit-up Queensland Country Health Fund Academy representative Majella Carey in their absence.

“Sami Whitcomb is a leader in that team and a phenomenal scorer, and I think their guards are going to be extremely strong,” Batkovic told media at the Fire’s season launch.

“We only have a couple of weeks before our first real game, and it will be nice to beat up on someone else as opposed to each other.

“We just want to get some flow and just find that cohesion together.”

The Fire host the Lynx from 7pm each night, with doors opening at the Den from 5.45pm.

While tickets are still available at the door, patrons are advised to arrive early to ensure that they are not sold out.
