The JCU Townsville Fire have answered their critics in the most emphatic fashion with a season best team performance.

The Fire had contributors right across the court in the 94-80 victory with Darcee Garbin 27 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists leading the charge,  Tess Madgen 17 points, 6 rebounds,  5 assists, Bridget Carelton 18 points and a huge 17 rebounds, Julie Vanloo 15 points and 9 assists in this impressive team display.

“It was a much better performance,” Seebohm said.

“We came out with much better energy – we executed our scout – and we played the brand of basketball that we want to play.

Fire Captain Micaela Cocks couldn’t overcome a shoulder injury for yesterday’s clash to miss her first ever game in 9 seasons for the club, her teammates well and truly stood up in her absence.

The Fire knew a lead in the first quarter was required on their home court.

“We have the most amazing fans and we knew we owed it to them to get the win at home this weekend” Star of the Game Darcee Garbin said.

The Fire maintained the rage in the second term with a 28-18 quarter  and went into the half 53-40.

The Spirit remained  in the mix in the third but a late triple from Garbin saw the that the Fire went into the final quarter up 75-59 .

Late in the fourth with a comfortable lead, Coach Seebohm cleared the bench and gave Fire development players some minutes and a taste of their first win in the WNBL.

The Fire will take on Southside Flyers in game one of their double this coming weekend on Friday night in Dandenong before heading home to take on the Sydney flames Sunday at 1pm at Townsville Stadium.
