Fire turn to home fortress
The JCU Townsville Fire will turn to their home fans on Saturday afternoon in a bid to ignite their 2018/19 season.
With head coach Claudia Brassard missing on national duties, earlier today the Fire announced three-time championship winning assistant Mark Wrobel would take the reins for the first time in the Chemist Warehouse WNBL.

At Wrobel’s disposal will be the Fire’s full squad, with New Zealand international Stella Beck cleared to played after recovering from a stress fracture and Townsville rookie Alex Fowler returning home with a bronze medal from the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
“We had a good hit-out this morning,” Wrobel said.
“The energy was really good – we went hard at each other – but we will get another one in tomorrow to scout the Flames.
“They’ll be desperate to win and so are we, but hopefully our fan base can get behind us and get us home.”
To start the season, the Fire were locked in an arm-wrestle with Dandenong at Townsville Stadium before losing a thriller.

While the reigning champs bounced back with a 10-point win over Adelaide, they dropped to a 1-2 record following an 88-98 loss against Perth.
The Fire host the Sydney Uni Flames at Townsville Stadium from 2pm on Saturday.
