Fire win in overtime thriller
The JCU Townsville Fire have returned to the winners’ list with an 93-88 victory on the road over the Perth Lynx.
Abby Bishop (31 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists) and captain Micaela Cocks (22 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) were outstanding for the Fire. Coach Shannon Seebohm believes his team is now more comfortable with where they need to be to play at this level.
“We’ve had a couple of games that have come right down to the wire and this week in particular at practice we addressed a lot of that just managing the game a little bit better,” he said.
“Being able to execute down the stretch of the game and the importance of being able to get the best shot we possibly can every single time when it really counts.
The Fire were down by down by 15 points in the second quarter but showed extreme fight and prevailed, with the Captain sinking a deep 3 in the last seconds to put the Fire in the lead, Perth came back and levelled it all up at full-time sending the game into overtime. The Fire dug dip and finished the game off with a 93-88 win.
