Queensland Country Health Fund Academy star Alex Fowler is one step closer to representing Australia at the up-coming Under-17 World Cup in Belarus.

Earlier today, Fowler was included in a 16-player squad for the Sapphires’ selection camp in Canberra from June 1 to 4, with the final 12 advancing to the tournament where Australia will look to defend their gold medal from 2016.

Three-time Fire championship winning assistant Mark Wrobel, who was a part of the Sapphires’ gold medal campaign in Spain, remains part of the coaching panel.

Earlier this month, Fowler was among a host of hopefuls at the AIS for the Sapphires, with the 16-year-old previously forming part of the team that won Asia Cup gold in India in October.

During that tournament, Fowler put her best foot forward as she averaged 6.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in 15 minutes per game.

The Under-17 World Cup in Minsk, Belarus will be held from July 21 to 29.
