Fowler named BQ Player of the Year
Rising JCU Townsville Fire star Alex Fowler has capped off a stunning 12 months by being named the Basketball Queensland Female Player of the Year on Saturday night.
Having represented Australia at the Under-16 Asia Cup – and in the 3 x 3 format of the game – Fowler was a popular winner at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
A member of the Fire’s Queensland Country Health Fund Academy which aims to up-skill prospective WNBL players, Fowler will vie for a berth at the up-coming Under-17 World Championships later this week as the Sapphires stage their final selection camp in Canberra.

The current squad of 16 will be trimmed to 12 for the tournament in Belarus, with Australia looking to defend their title from 2016.
“The BQ Award is great recognition of Alex’s past 12 months,” Fire General Manager Richard Goodbody said.
“She was the only female athlete in the state to represent Australia in both formats of the game and she continues to blossom into an exciting prospect for the Fire.
“We look forward to following her development and seeing her progress into the WNBL.”
