Fowler secures Olympic bronze

October 17, 2018 | Townsville Fire news

JCU Townsville Fire rising star Alex Fowler is now an Olympic bronze medallist.

Following a two-week campaign in Buenos Aires, Fowler and her Australian teammates found their way on to the dais after overcoming China 16-13 to secure bronze at the Youth Olympics.

Less than an hour after suffering a heart-breaking semi-final loss to France in overtime, Australia bounced back in emphatic fashion despite a slow start against the Chinese.

Trailing 0-4 early in the 3 x 3 contest, Australia found their grove as a 7-0 run of their own handed them their first lead of the bronze medal game and they were determined to finish the competition on a high.

Coming into the tournament as the lowest ranked women’s team due to worldwide ranking points, the four teenagers carried Australia to another podium winning performance, owning a 5-2 record overall, as the country’s 3×3 prospects continue to grow.

The JCU Townsville Fire would like to congratulate Alex Fowler and her teammates on their bronze medal performance.
