Fowler through to semi-finals

Australia has advanced to the semi-finals of the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires after defeating the Ukraine overnight.

With JCU Townsville Fire forward Alex Fowler in the line-up, Australia ensured they would reach the medal rounds with a 16-6 victory over the Ukraine and will now face France for a berth in the gold-medal decider.

The USA and China will meet in the opposite semi-final.

Australia has been formidable at the tournament after accounting for a raft of seeds inside the top-20 including the Netherlands (five), Czech Republic (12), Estonia (four) and Ukraine (two).

In the quarter-final, Fowler fished with three points and seven rebounds in the 3 x 3 format.

Sara-Rose Smith top-scored with six points and 11 rebounds.

Australia will face France in the Youth Olympics semi-final from midnight with the bronze medal game at 1.40am and the gold medal game at 2.30am.

Fowler is expected to make her Chemist Warehouse WNBL debut in round three against the Sydney Uni Flames upon her return to Australia after spending the past several seasons in the Queensland Country Health Fund Academy.
