Garbin flirts with triple double

June 25, 2018 | Townsville Fire news

Two-time JCU Townsville Fire championship winner Darcee Garbin has flirted with a triple double at the weekend to start this week’s Winter Report.

Fresh off being named the QBL Player of the Week, Garbin, who will tour China next month with the Australian Opals, was simply brilliant on Friday night as she led the Townsville Flames to a 104-68 victory over Gladstone.

Garbin top-scored for the Flames with 22 points, eight rebounds and eight assists – along with four steals – as she sat most of the final term.

New Zealand internationals Micaela Cocks 11 points, three rebounds and three assists and Stella Beck 11 points, three rebounds and five assists both enjoyed solid showings.

The Logan Thunder’s form slump has continued despite the best efforts of Mikhaela Donnelly.

As she has done all season, Donnelly led from the front for the Thunder against South West Metro as she registered a team-high 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Zitina Aokuso chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds, but the Pirates secured a 78-56 victory.

North Gold Coast made a return to the winners’ list courtesy of 13 points, three rebounds and six assists from Casey Samuels.

The Seahawks proved too strong for Brisbane as they clinched a 75-56 win against the Capitals.

In the SEABL, Tess Madgen continued her rich vein of form for Dandenong during the Rangers’ 62-73 loss to Nunawading.

Madgen top-scored for the Rangers with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Opals playmaker will join Garbin in China for the Four Nations tournament next month.
