Garbin registers 100 Fire games

January 16, 2019 | Townsville Fire news

JCU Townsville Fire forward Darcee Garbin will become just the 11th player to chalk up 100 games for the club on Saturday night when she runs out against Sydney Uni.

While much of the build-up has been on Suzy Batkovic’s final game, Garbin, a two-time championship winner since crossing from the West Coast Waves, has become an important impact player for the Fire since her arrival in Townsville.

Having debuted as a teenager at the AIS, the 24-year-old earned an Opals call-up last year and was recently named in the 2019 squad following another solid season in the Chemist Warehouse WNBL.

With Garbin under contract for 2019/20, she is expected to be knocking on the door of the top-five should she remain injury free.

“It’s hard to believe that I’m playing my 100th game for the Fire,” Garbin said.

“While things clearly haven’t gone to plan this season, it’s been pretty special to play in two championships with some amazing teammates including Suzy.

“I don’t want to take anything away from her night on Saturday, so I’m happy to take a back seat, but hopefully we can finish on a winning note and send her out right.”

The Fire host the Flames at Townsville Stadium on Saturday night with tip-off from 7pm.
