The JCU Townsville Fire is one of the nation’s pre-eminent women’s sporting clubs. Having won three of the past fur championships in the Chemist Warehouse WNBL, the Fire makes a significant contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of the region. As an active member of the North Queensland community – and only WNBL club in Queensland – we represent positive healthy female role models and work diligently both on and off the court.

 

About the Role

WNBL head coach opportunity while enjoying life in the tropics in one of Australia’s best regional cities.

The role of the Head Coach is critical to the performance, engagement and success of the JCU Townsville Fire

The role will manage, develop and execute performance outcomes.

Skills and Expertise

Essential

  • Minimum 4+ years Basketball Coaching experience at Representative level (preferably Head Coach)
  • Minimum Level 2 NCAS coaching accreditation or International equivalent
  • Specific technical knowledge of individual and team principles including techniques, coaching trends and international developments
  • Ability to contribute effectively as part of a team, working towards the achievement of specific outcomes
  • Strong Communication & Interpersonal Skills to liaise with a wide range of people including athletes, service providers, management, media, etc.
  • Capacity to identify and select potential elite athletes
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as an active participant in a team
  • Strong organisational & time management skills
  • Consistently meet competing demands by prioritising in a results oriented environment
  • Experience dealing with and managing the media
  • Experience using data analysis software.

 

 Desirable

  • relevant tertiary qualifications – Degree in Teaching/Coaching/Sports Science or similar
  • Understanding of the concepts of sports science, sports medicine and technological advancements relating to elite training programs and their relevance to basketball
