Season Starter  – Fire head to Melbourne to take on the Southside Flyers

The 2019/20 WNBL season has finally arrived, and the JCU Townsville Fire  are heading to Dandenong  Stadium  for the opening round as they kick off their campaign.

Fire return Star Kate Gaze says her side is excited and ready to go to kick off the season, “it’s been a great pre- season and we are excited to get games underway.”

“The league this year is super strong with quiet a number of WNBA players coming to Australia also our Opals players are spread across a number of our clubs, it’s great to see such a strong league this season  .”

“As for the team’s goal for the season Gaze said that for them it is about taking it game by game and focusing on that, The club is passionate about the team culture and set the bar high with both on and off the court standards, obviously we are aiming to finish top 4 so we can have a shot at the championship come February.”

Players to watch

Julie Vanloo – FIRE point guard Julie Vanloo wants to make Townsville Stadium a fortress in her first WNBL season and the Belgian import says she’s ready to lead the charge as their excitement machine.

Hannah Young– The new kid on the block pulled out all the stops at the Fire’s  pre-season match against Sydney she showcased her ability to really shoot the ball, and was extremely impressive in her defense, expect to see her firing in round one_________________________________________

 Belgium import  Julie Vanloo will make her debut for the Fire in Round 1, Vanloo is the first Belgian to play in the WNBL
