Lucy Cochrane, a 6’6” Australian forward has signed with the Fire
The Townsville Fire is thrilled to announce the signing of Lucy Cochrane, a 6’6” Australian forward, for the upcoming WNBL season.
Lucy Cochrane returns to Australia after an impressive college career at the University of Portland, where she showcased her skills and athleticism. In her last season at College, she averaged 7.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game, highlighting her all-around capabilities and defensive prowess.
Lucy has also played for the Australia National Team in both the 2016 FIBA U-17 Women’s World Championship and the 2015 FIBA U-16 Oceania Championship … as the youngest member of the team.
Head coach Shannon Seebohm expressed excitement about the new addition, ”Lucy is a fantastic person and player, and we’re thrilled to have her join the Fire this season. She has all the tools to develop into an elite big in the WNBL. Her defensive instincts are exceptional, as she showed at Portland in the NCAA, finishing 2nd in the nation for blocked shots last season, trailing only Cameron Brink. We can’t wait to have Lucy join the team in September.”
“I can’t wait to be a part of the Townsville team this season and to be surrounded by a special team of players and coaches. I’ve always loved watching the Fire play and it’s so exciting to be joining the team for my first WNBL season after seeing all the other amazing players who have come before me. I’m really looking forward to being coached by Shannon again and all the amazing staff at Townsville and can’t wait to get started.,” said Lucy Cochrane.
The Townsville Fire is committed to building a strong and competitive team, and the addition of Lucy Cochrane is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
Fans can look forward to an exciting season with new energy, Lucy joins Courtney Woods, Saffron Shiels, Alex Fowler and Lauren Cox for the upcoming WNBL season.
