McDonald’s Strengthens Partnership with Townsville Fire, Extends Support for Junior Program

September 18, 2024 | Townsville Fire news

The Townsville Fire is thrilled to announce an extension to what is now a 24-year partnership with McDonald’s, a long-standing supporter of the team since its inception in 2001.

This partnership extension will see McDonald’s continue their invaluable support for a further two years, reinforcing their commitment to the growth of women’s basketball and the local community.

As part of the renewed agreement, McDonald’s are the new naming rights partner of the Fire’s Junior Program. This initiative has been instrumental in providing young athletes and local junior clubs with opportunities to be part of the Townsville Fire game day experience. Through this partnership, junior players will have the chance to engage with the Fire, participate in on-court activities, and immerse themselves in the exciting atmosphere of live basketball. It also provides great opportunities for junior clubs to fundraise.

“We’re incredibly proud to extend our partnership with McDonald’s, a brand that has been with us since the very beginning,” said General Manager Sam Pascoe. “Their commitment to not only supporting our team but also fostering the next generation of players through the Junior Program speaks volumes about their dedication to the Townsville community.”

The locally owned McDonald’s restaurants have been a pillar of support for the Townsville Fire for over two decades, contributing significantly to the club’s success both on and off the court.

Their ongoing involvement in grassroots basketball ensures that the Fire’s impact continues to be felt throughout the wider community, inspiring young players and strengthening the connection between the team and its supporters.

Janelle Doyle, Licensee for McDonald’s Fairfield Waters, CBD and North Ward, said this is a significant partnership for us in the Queensland region, one that has now spanned over more than two decades.

“We have been alongside this high performing team from the very beginning, so we are thrilled to be able to extend our partnership for what is now the 24th year. This renewed partnership sees us committed to supporting the team for a further three years through to the end of the 2027-2028 season, and we can’t wait to see them excel,” said Janelle.

“At McDonald’s we are proud to support local causes and groups that are important to our community, and we love being part of the wider Townsville Fire team.”This renewed partnership with McDonald’s reinforces the Fire’s mission to grow women’s basketball in Northern Australia and beyond, empowering young athletes and fostering a sense of community through the shared love of the game.

“Since our partnership began in 2001, we have been proud to stand beside the incredible athletes who have been and are part of the team,” said Janelle.

“This cohort, past and present, continues to set a high bar for success in the game. The Fire are wonderful ambassadors for the city and our region, setting an amazing example as role models for young women in Northern Australia.”
