Local athlete, Kelsey McDermott Firing in the Development Program;
In a season that is being held in our back yard, It is great to have a development player hailing from Mackay as part of the JCU Townsville Fire program.
Kelsey from Mackay, Queensland, was a member of the Queensland All-State Team in 2013, 2015 and 2016, in which she competed in the under-16, under-18 and under-20 Australian National Tournament.
In the 2016 national tournament, Kelsey averaged 13.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. In three years with the All-State team, she never shot lower than 44% from the field.
Returning from Newberry Wolves College where in 2019-20 Mcdemott started in all 28 games for the Wolves…averaged 10.6 points, 3.5 boards, and 2.0 assists on the season…twice recorded a career-high 23 points during the season, including a game winning three against Benedict…led the team in made field goals and steals, both career-highs…second on the team in points, minutes and assists…twice dropped a career-high six three pointers in the games against Benedict and Lincoln Memorial, on 11/12 and 2/15 respectively…made a career-high 10 of 11 field goals in the game against Lincoln Memorial on 1/04
“Being able to have a young local talent like Kelsey a part of our program, is fantastic, Development players are really important to our program and Kelsey will be a great asset to our squad across the next few months” Head Coach Shannon Seebohm said.
