Returning for her 10th Season with the FIRE
The JCU Townsville Fire are thrilled to be welcoming back three time championship winner Micaela Cocks for her 10th season with the club
Having joined the Fire in 2011/12, Cocks is one of two players to have played in all five of the Fire’s Grand Final appearances including capturing the Rachael Sporn Medal in 2015/16.
The high-octane guard sits in the top-five for points and assists for the Fire amongst a raft of other categories.
Cocks welcomed baby Hazel in November 2020 and recently returned to the court for the NBL1 season, where is she is playing for the Townsville flames, averaging 14.33pts per game and shooting at of 50%.
Coach Shannon Seebohm is thrilled to be welcoming back the club legend,
“Micaela is a legend of our club and it’s very exciting to be able to see her return for another stint after the birth of Hazel.
“Micaela is the ultimate team player and the exact type of person that you hope for as a coach when it comes to building a competitive team and culture that is about relentless effort and professional excellence. She’s a fantastic shooter and gritty defender which are two things that we value greatly here. I had the pleasure of coaching her two seasons ago when I first joined the team and am really looking forward to getting another chance to see her on court with the Fire again this year.”
Cocks says the return feels like a home coming,
“ The Townsville Fire has been my home for so many years, Its great to get the opportunity to return to the Townsville Fire and put the jersey back on after a season off, I not only look forward to being a professional ‘mum-athlete’ but continuing to be a positive role model to young girls striving to be successful.”
Cocks is the final roster spot for the JCU Townsville Fire’s 21/22 WNBL season and will join Sug Sutton,Monique Billings Stephanie Reid, Mia Murray, Lauren Nicholson, Zitina Aoukso, Nadeen Payne, Lara McSpadden and Courtney Woods
