Samuels sizzles for Seahawks

July 16, 2018 | Townsville Fire news

JCU Townsville Fire recruit Casey Samuels has produced a sizzling performance to start this week’s Winter Update.

Hoping to return North Gold Coast to the winners’ list in the QBL, Samuels tried to will her side to victory as she posted a game-high 20 points to go with six rebounds and four assists against South West Metro.

The Pirates would enjoy the last laugh, however, as their WNBL-laden roster clinched an 81-72 victory.

A Zitina Aokuso double-double – her eighth of the QBL season – was not enough to lead Logan to victory over the Sunshine Coast.

Aokuso finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while championship-winning teammate Mikhaela Donnelly recorded five points, two rebounds and six assists in the Thunder’s 60-64 loss to the Phoenix.

The Townsville Flames continue to pace the competition following their 82-66 victory over Sunshine Coast Rip.

Stella Beck, who will depart to Taiwan tomorrow for the William Jones Cup with the New Zealand team, stroked 16 points and eight rebounds in an expanded role for the Flames.

With Darcee Garbin and Alex Fowler both missing due to national duties, Beck relished the extra load as she helped guide the Flames to a 16-point win.

Micaela Cocks, fresh off winning the QBL Player of the Week, registered 16 points, five rebounds and three steals.

The Opals continue their campaign from 9.30pm tonight when they face China.
