SportsMed NQ clinch Karrie Webb Challenge

June 27, 2018 | Townsville Fire news

The SportsMed NQ team have secured the 2018 Karrie Webb Challenge at Rowes Bay Golf Club.

For a successive year, the JCU Townsville Fire offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play 18 holes alongside Webb, a seven-time major champion who has served as a club Ambassador for the past three years, with SportsMed NQ edging out Townsville RSL by a shot.

Lonergan Project Services, the defending champions, rounded out the placings as they finished a shot further back in third.

As part of the Townsville RSL Golf Day, a signed Karrie Webb bag was auctioned off and a raft of other prizes were handed out SportsMed NQ team captain, Paul Parker, securing two of the nearest to the pin awards.

Fire coach Claudia Brassard was unable to lead the PDM team home, however, new recruit Stella Beck looked extremely comfortable on the Rowes Bay course.

“It was a great day,” Fire General Manager Richard Goodbody said.

“We’re extremely grateful for Townsville RSL for their ongoing support, along with our gold partners in the Townsville Bulletin, Lonergan Project Services and wilson/ryan/grose.

“We congratulate SportsMed NQ on their victory and we look forward to them playing alongside Karrie in the near future.

“Karrie is the perfect Ambassador for our club – a North Queensland legend who represents our region on the global stage with distinction – and we’re extremely proud to have her associated with us.”

The reigning WNBL champions are in the midst of completing their playing roster for 2018/19.
