There is no stopping Micaela Cocks
A Micaela Cocks double-double has guided Townsville to yet another QBL win to start this week’s Winter Update.
Heading on the road for the first time in 2018, the Flames kept their unblemished record intact thanks to the New Zealand Olympian who posted a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead them to a 100-71 victory over Cairns.
Cocks has been in irrepressible form since returning from national duties and must now be entering MVP contention after averaging 20.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists to start the season.
Fire teammate Darcee Garbin chipped in with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists, while championship winner Haylee Andrews buried 22 points.
To round out a spectacular weekend, Cocks then tackled the 10km Magnetic Island Trail Run and was the women’s winner of the event.
With most QBL teams enjoying the bye, Mikhaela Donnelly and Zitina Aokuso were able to freshen up for Logan, while Casey Samuels was able to do likewise for North Gold Coast.
In the SEABL competition, Tess Madgen continues to go from strength-to-strength for Dandenong.
The Opals playmaker finished with 12 points, five rebounds and eight assists in the Rangers’ 76-66 victory over Geelong.
Pleasingly, Madgen recorded more than 30 minutes of court time for the time this season as she continues to make her comeback from an ACL injury.
