Despite securing a sixth straight win the side still sits third on the ladder after round 14, but the Lynx loss on the weekend, has opened the door for Townsville to secure second.
The prize for finishing behind Bendigo is a home-court advantage against Perth in the playoffs. A battle between the pair in the last game of the regular season could potentially decide where the semi final series starts the following week. Forward Alex Fowler believes the race to finish in the top 2 will be decided at the Fire Pit on February 16.
“Yeah for sure between us and Perth, both of us, just trying to scratch our way to second place and I think that last home game is going to be really important for us.
She knows not to look too far ahead, with a pair of must-win away games to negotiate first, against the Lighting, followed by another midweek showdown in Sydney.
“I think we just have to carry the momentum with us and the way we’ve been playing and training, I think we’re heading on the right path to hopefully being able to do that” said Fowler.

5 Fire players hit double digits, including Fowler who finished with 15 points from the bench.
Import Nia Coffey also scored 15 while Co-Captain’s Courtney Woods and Alicia Froling dropped 16 and 18 respectively. The latter’s was a team high total. American Lauren Cox had 11 along with her game high 8 rebounds.
