Tim Tams Fuel Fires Hunger for Success in Home Double Header
Steph Reid’s been a defensive dynamo this season and the point guard has revealed what’s driving her intensity on the court. An Australian icon, found in the supermarket, is fueling her hunger to draw offensive fouls.
“We’ve got a Tim Tam rule, if you take a charge you get a packet of Tim Tams. I think I’m up to three, so yeah we’re keeping count and we’re definitely holding Shannon accountable.
Fire Coach Shannon Seebohm hasn’t delivered on his promise yet.
“I’ve been a bit slack! I’ve got a big bag of them at home that I need to bring in and start dishing out because they’re buying into to it, it’s been really good.”
The Fire will be hoping to get the chocolates when they take on Adelaide and Melbourne this weekend. The hosts head into tonight’s tussle with the ladder leaders, buoyed by back to back wins and Seebohm believes lightning can strike twice, after Townsville toppled the South Australians earlier in the season.
“The first game we played them they were obviously still gelling so I’m excepting them to come out very different. You know Adelaide are playing great basketball, probably the best basketball of any team in the league at the moment but in saying that we know that when we play our best, we are one of the best teams in the league and we can beat anybody.”
Sundays Boomers battle comes quickly after an epic comeback against Melbourne less than a week ago. A superb second half, highlighted just how hot the Fire can get. Reid insists Townsville must maintain that standard.
“We really needed to play that way, with that sense of urgency, and now we’ve seen how we can perform at that level and now we’re just setting that as a standard and we expect to play at that level all the time.”
Power forward Monique Billings will return to action for the double header, after missing round eight with a knee complaint Seebohm won’t take any risks with the import though.
“She’s been back on the floor at training this week, we’ve been slowly building her up. It’s looking good for Adelaide but it’s all based on how she’s feeling. We’ll try and play her and then we’ll base Sunday on how that goes, so if she pulls up sore or is not quite right, she’ll probably miss a game.
Tonight’s tip-off at the Fire Pit is at 7.30. Sunday’s showdown starts at 4.30. Tickets are available for both games here
