Townsville Fire Set to Ignite at Hoops Fest 2024: A Development Focus
As part of their continued focus on player development and pathways, the Townsville Fire have opted to send a talented mix of development players and rising stars to Hoops Fest in Perth, This unique event presents a opportunity for these athletes to gain valuable experience while strengthening connections with the broader basketball community.
Heading the roster for this exciting event are two of the Fire’s development players for the 2024/2025 WNBL season, Jess McDowell-White and Majella Carey, Alongside them are several standouts from Basketball Queensland’s state representative ranks, including Prasayus Notoa, Emma Petrie, Sharni Reisinger, and Teyahna Bond
Adding to the team’s strength, NBL1 West players Mikayla Pirini and Jess Jakens bring valuable experience from their league, Meanwhile, Townsville Fire Academy prospects Maci Lahrs and Clara Kolb round out the team, continuing to develop their game under the Fire’s elite program.
This team will be under the watchful eye of Marcus Wong, Townsville Fire’s assistant coach, Prior to making their way to Perth, the Queensland state representatives and the Fire Academy players had the exclusive opportunity to participate in a 3-day intensive camp in Townsville. Led by the Fire’s head coach, Shannon Seebohm, this camp offered a high-performance training environment, focusing on fine-tuning skills, building team chemistry, and instilling the Fire’s trademark work ethic.
The Fire’s HoopsFest team reflects the club’s strong commitment to fostering pathways for local and Queensland athletes. By providing opportunities like this, Townsville Fire continues to deepen its connection with the next generation of basketball talent, ensuring a bright future for both the club and the sport in the region.
