The Townsville Fire capped off an incredible season with a dominant showing at the WNBL Awards Night, taking home multiple prestigious honours that reflect the team’s excellence both on and off the court.

 

Courtney Woods: Community Player of the Year & All-Star Five Selection

 

Courtney Woods was a standout on the night, earning Community Player of the Year for her tireless efforts in engaging with the Townsville community and inspiring the next generation of basketballers. Her dedication to grassroots programs and charitable initiatives has made her a role model both on and off the court.

 

 

Adding to her accolades, Woods was also named to the WNBL All-Star Five First Team, recognising her outstanding contributions throughout the season. Her offensive prowess leadership, and ability to perform in clutch moments made her an undeniable choice for the league’s elite lineup.

 

Abbey Ellis: Breakout Player of the Year

 

Young star Abbey Ellis had a season to remember, earning the Breakout Player of the Year award. In her first season with the Fire, Ellis displayed remarkable growth, proving herself as a dynamic force on both ends of the floor. Her relentless energy, scoring ability, and defensive hustle were instrumental in the Fire’s success, solidifying her as one of the league’s rising stars.

 

Lauren Cox: Defensive Player of the Year

 

A defensive powerhouse, Lauren Cox claimed the Defensive Player of the Year award after an incredible season protecting the paint and locking down the opposition’s best players. Cox’s shot-blocking ability, rebounding dominance, and defensive versatility played a crucial role in the Fire’s ability to control games. Her tenacity and basketball IQ made her the backbone of Townsville’s elite defence.

 

Shannon Seebohm: Coach of the Year

 

At the helm of the Fire’s success, Shannon Seebohm was deservedly named WNBL Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, the team displayed remarkable cohesion, resilience, and a championship mindset. Seebohm’s ability to develop players, instil a winning culture, and make key tactical adjustments throughout the season was pivotal in the Fire’s impressive campaign.

 

 

Donna Turner: WNBL Life Membership Inductee

A special moment of the evening was the induction of Donna Turner into the WNBL Life Membership for her outstanding service to the Townsville Fire as Team Manager. Turner has been an integral part of the Fire family for many years, ensuring the team operates smoothly behind the scenes.
