Townsville Fire Sign 2024 WNBA Draft Pick #5 Jacy Sheldon for Upcoming WNBL Season

The Townsville Fire are thrilled to announce the signing of Jacy Sheldon, the #5 overall pick in the WNBA Draft, for the upcoming WNBL season.

Sheldon, a dynamic guard known for her exceptional scoring ability and tenacious defence, is set to bring a new level of excitement and competitiveness to the team.

“Jacy is a very exciting player who has the ability to turn a game with her elite speed and shooting ability. She’s an extremely tough defender and competes every second she is on the floor. Additionally, she’s a great person and someone who ticked all the boxes for us during the recruiting process. We are really excited to have her join our team as soon as she completes her rookie WNBA season,” said Coach Seebohm.

Sheldon, who played college basketball at Ohio State University, has been a standout player throughout her career. During her time with the Buckeyes, she consistently demonstrated her ability to impact the game in multiple ways, earning numerous accolades and setting records along the way, averaging 17.8 points per game in her final year at college. Her impressive performances caught the attention of WNBA scouts, leading to her being selected fifth overall in the draft by the Dallas Wings, where she has started the last ten games and averaged 20 minutes through 23 total games, Sheldon has drained 19 triples and had a career night from beyond the arc in the Wings’ recent victory over the Atlanta Dream. Sheldon made five three-pointers en route to a career-high 17 points on the night.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to play for the Townsville Fire and compete internationally. I look forward to representing the city of Townsville and playing in front of the fire fans,” said Sheldon.

The addition of Sheldon to the roster bolsters an already strong lineup for the Fire. With her skill set and determination, she is expected to make an immediate impact and help the team contend for a championship.
