Wiese to contend for WNBA championship
JCU Townsville Fire recruit Sydney Wiese is just three wins away from securing a WNBA title.
A first round draft pick by the defending champions, the LA Sparks will face Minnesota in a rematch of last year’s championship series after clean-sweeping Phoneix 3-0 today.
As a result, Cayla George’s championship hopes have been dashed, with the Rio Olympian expected to link up with the Fire next week ahead of the 2017/18 season.
Under the WNBA play-off format, Minnesota will host LA in games one and two on Monday and Wednesday before the Sparks host game three on Saturday, September 20.
Game four will also be staged in LA – if required – while game five will return to Minnesota if the series goes the distance.
