The JCU Townsville Fire have crowned the inaugural winners of their Corporate Golf Day. The three-man team from the Mad Cow Tavern won the Ambrose tournament at Willows, finishing one shot clear of a five-way countback for second, and landing close to $5000 in prizes. As a gold sponsor on the day, Lonergan Project Services claimed the Karrie Webb Challenge as the top-ranked finisher in the competition, and in the process, secured a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a round of 18 holes with the seven-time major champion. On a countback for third, iPlumb completed the placings and secured four digital subscriptions to the Townsville Bulletin. With championship-winning stars Mia Murray, Darcee Garbin and Rachael McCully on the course, along with Claudia Brassard and Mark Wrobel, more than 60 took part in the fundraising day. “The impetus behind the day was to drive a close connection between our corporate community, members, players and staff,” Fire General Manager Richard Goodbody said. “We had fantastic conditions at Willows and the event was really warmly received so we’d love to make it an annual fixture. “Our club is also fortunate to have such a generous ambassador in Karrie Webb and it will be a real treat for the winning teams to share the fairways with an Aussie golf legend.” As well as a number of additional prizes for longest drive and nearest to the pin, wilson/ryan/grose collected the award for the final finisher. The top-10 placings were:
  1. Mad Cow Tavern
