JCU Townsville Fire forward Marena Whittle has been selected in the SEABL All*Star Five to tip-off this week’s Winter Update. The Nunawading captain was named alongside Bendigo’s Chloe Bibby, Dandenong’s Lauren Scherf, Geelong’s Sara Blicavs and Hobert’s Kathleen Scheer after averaging 16.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Spectres. https://twitter.com/SEABL/status/894045407755378688 A knee injury prematurely ended Whittle’s SEABL campaign, with the forward now racing the clock to be fit for the WNBL season. “It’s a bit unknown if it’s going to be three or four-month injury so we might look at bringing someone in for the season and have her as an 11th,” Brassard said. “I think we’re covered in every position. We’ve got players who can play multiple positions as well so should someone go down then we’ve get every spot covered.” Meanwhile, Kelly Wilson made her return to SEABL action at the weekend with five points, seven rebounds and two assists in Bendigo’s loss to the Melbourne Tigers. Having returned from the Under-19 World Cup, Zitina Aokuso posted 18 points and nine rebounds for the BA Centre of Excellence. https://twitter.com/TownsvilleFire/status/894042190086684672 In the QBL, Darcee Garbin and Mia Murray were at their brilliant best as they led the Townsville Flames to three victories in as many days. Garbin averaged 23.7 points and 14.3 rebounds across the weekend, while Murray added 14.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. Haylee Andrews continued her strong form after averaging 9.3 points and 3.3 rebounds. The Flames finished fifth on a countback with Gladstone and will now play the Power in a knock-out semi-final this week. Fresh off a bye, the Logan Thunder and Miela Goodchild face the Brisbane Capitals, while Micaela Cocks and Mackay meet Ipswich. Finally, in the WNBA, Cayla George has continued her solid form for Phoenix. The Rio Olympian contributed two points and three rebounds coming off the bench against Connecticut, while Sydney Wiese posted three rebounds and an assist for the LA Sparks this morning.
