JCU Townsville Fire point guard Kelly Wilson will chase another SEABL championship on Saturday to commence this week’s Winter Update.
Having played just a handful of games for Bendigo this season, Wilson is looming as the kingmaker in Saturday’s SEABL Grand Final against Geelong, playing a starring role for the Lady Braves at the weekend.
Wilson wracked up 16 points, nine assists and two rebounds on Saturday as Bendigo defeated Launceston 91-80.
Geelong downed Kilsyth 62-43 in the opposite semi-final.
In the QBL, Micaela Cocks’ hopes were dashed as the Brisbane Spartans finished the season undefeated after clean-sweeping Mackay in the best-of-three Grand Final series at the weekend.
Cocks had 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals on Friday night as the Meteorettes missed a golden opportunity to claim game one with a 74-76 loss.
The following night, the Spartans clinched the championship with a 70-66 win, with Cocks contributing 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
In the WNBA, Phoenix and Los Angeles enjoyed wins, with limited roles for Cayla George and Sydney Wiese.
Finally, Australia will play for gold at the World University Games tonight after defeating Chinese Taipei in their semi-final.
Darcee Garbin led the way once again with another double-double – 18 points and 13 rebounds – in front of 18,000 supporters backing the host nation.
The Emerging Opals clash with Japan from 10pm tonight in the gold medal game.
