The University of Canberra Capitals are delighted to announce they have retained Alex Bunton for the 2022/23 WNBL season.

2021/22 was a comeback season for Bunton after two years away from the game. With the highest field goal average in the playing group at 53%, Bunton has been an ever reliable and dangerous force for the UC Capitals.

An inspiration on and off the court, Bunton embodies the strength, resilience and character of a Capital and Head Coach Kristen Veal said retaining her was an easy decision.

“I’m looking forward to reconnecting with Bunts and continuing to build on her solid return to the WNBL last season,” Vealy said.

“Bunts is one of the league’s few legit centres and we will look to her to make an impact both ends through her size, athleticism, and physicality.

“There’s no reason why her game shouldn’t go to another level this year with more opportunity and responsibility – solidifying herself as a dominant big in the league.”

The fan favourite said she’s excited to be back for another season and seeing where the UC Caps can go in 22/23.

“Returning to the UC Caps was a no brainer when it came down to family,” Bunton said.

“It is a big family club and with Opal being so young still and being a single mum, I need that support behind me.

“I am excited to work with Vealy as she was a huge influence in my previous years, and I can’t wait to further build on last year.

“I am grateful to have my family around me and to be back in Caps environment! I can’t wait for the season!”

Bunton is the sixth signing for the UC Capitals. The season commences on 3 November, 2022.
