College Graduate Meg Jefferson joins the UC Capitals
The UC Capitals are thrilled to announce the signing of Meg Jefferson for the 2024/25 season. A standout athlete with a diverse and impressive basketball background, Jefferson brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the team.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play for the UC Capitals as a rostered player in the WNBL,” Jefferson said.
“After speaking with the coaching staff, I feel confident that they have my best interests at heart and are genuinely committed to helping me develop into the best player I can be. This season, my goal is to enhance my game on both ends of the court and hone my skills to become a valuable member of the UC Capitals.
“I’m excited to fulfill my childhood dream of playing in the WNBL, be part of a great community, and make lifelong friends.”
Jefferson’s basketball journey began with the Penrith Panthers, where she represented NSW Metro at national tournaments from U16 to U20, securing two second-place finishes. Following high school, she accepted a Division 1 scholarship to the University of Virginia (UVA), competing in the ACC. During her time at UVA, she earned the prestigious Thomas Jefferson Award for her hard work and sportsmanship and achieved the highest shooting percentage in the NCAA for the 2021 season before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. Jefferson graduated a year early with a Bachelors degree in Environmental Science.
After UVA, Jefferson transferred to the University of Hawaii, but returned home after six months. She was then awarded an Elite Athlete Scholarship at the University of Sydney, where she played for USYD in the university league and completed her Master’s in Sustainability.
Jefferson’s recent experience includes training with the Sydney Flames as a fill-in and competing in university 3×3 competitions, which led her team to gold in the Oceanic tournament and a spot in the World Championship in Doha. Most recently, she represented the Hills Hornets in the NBL1.
“Meg has had an outstanding NBL1 East season and is a power forward that can run the floor, can push the ball in transition and is a great rebounder,” Head Coach Paul Goriss said.
“I wanted versatile player and Meg’s skill set will compliment how we want to play. We needed some help and depth in the frontcourt with Chantel and Meg helps fill that void. She is an exciting prospect.”
Join Meg and The UC Capitals for their first home game of the season, up against the Bendigo Spirit at the AIS Arena on November 8. Memberships are on sale now and can be purchased here.
