Gemma Potter to return to the UC Capitals

It is with great pleasure that the UC Capitals can announce, they have re-signed Gemma Potter for a fifth year with the club.

The 21-year-old is set for big things in season 23/24, as she works towards her return to court. Despite an ACL injury impacting her playing time, the 182cm guard is progressing smoothly with her rehab both physically and mentally.

“It’s five months and two weeks today. I’m back in the gym and next week I start controlled contact. I think once I start that, it’ll just fly by and I won’t really be looking back or remembering that I did my knee,” Gemma said.

Showing maturity beyond her years, the UC Capital says while there are good days and bad, she has her sights set on being back with the Caps family, with the ten-month mark of recovery timing well with the start of pre-season.

“I am just focusing on the WNBL and getting back. I will not be stepping on the court until Caps start and going back to where I feel comfortable. My safe place is Canberra, the girls and Vealy.

“With our home game attendance numbers increasing, it is something you want to get back to being a part of. We’re building something so special, and that’s obviously showing in the numbers that are coming to the games. I am very excited to get back, and I definitely am going to be trying to play more than eight minutes a season.”

The support of the coaches, the team and the fans something Potter doesn’t take for granted.

“We all know that it’s bigger than a game I think that shows every single game and even in the off-season,” she said.

“I’ve gone to watch Jade play and I walk in and see Canberra fans on a road trip on a holiday and they’ve made the trek out to watch Jade.

“That is reassurance that you are supported by so many people close to you and far away and even for the six months that we’re not in Canberra, we’re still seeing that from them, whether it’s in person or online.

“We’re very lucky and very blessed to have that support.”
