Now approaching the end of her first season with the UC Capitals, WNBA guard, Jazmon Gwathmey has cemented herself as a fan favourite amongst the team’s supporters.   This was the San Antonio Star’s first time playing basketball outside of the United States and says she has noticed the different type of basketball that is played in the WNBL compared to the WNBA.   “The style of play is a little more different then what I'm used to back home but to be a good basketball player you have to be able to adjust to different styles of play, so I’ve been happy to adjust.”   After joining from the most famous women’s basketball league in the world, Gwathmey has said she has been impressed with what she has experienced in Australia’s top division.   “I think it's a great league to play in especially for it to be my first time playing overseas. The competition is intense and I think overall it's helped improve my game.”   When reflecting on her own performance this season, Gwathmey says that while she isn’t scoring a huge number of points, she’s happy to contribute to her side’s game in other ways.   “I've been just trying to do the little things for the team which is how I really like to contribute for the UC Caps,” she said.   Currently in the middle of planning her wedding, Gwathmey has said although at times it has been difficult to be living so far away from her loved ones, there have been positives.   “It's helped me grow into a stronger person and it has even strengthened my relationship with Mya [Gwathmey’s fiancée].”   Gwathmey says that her first experience in the WNBL has been amazing, and she’s loved the competition she’s faced in this time.   “This league has so much great talent and I’ve loved playing against the best in Australia!”   Aaron Palazzo   Photo credit: 5 Foot Photography
