The UC Capitals are delighted to announce Katie Deeble has signed on with the club for the upcoming WNBL season.

The point guard joins the club from Wake Forest University in North Carolina, coming back early from college to take up an opportunity with the Capitals.

“I am super excited to join the Caps team, I can’t wait to get to Canberra to get started,” Katie said.

“The Caps have a great playing environment surrounded by a whole lot of great people, it just seemed like the perfect fit.”

Katie played junior basketball in Queensland, two years with the Centre of Excellence in Canberra, one year as a development player with the Sydney Flames and has represented Australia at a junior level, helping her team win silver at the 2021 FIBA u19 women’s World Cup where she averaged 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

“Katie is a fierce competitor and can pressure the ball full court defensively and has the ability to play make for herself and others,” UC Capitals Head Coach Paul Goriss said.

“She is a 3-point player but can also slice through defences to get to the basket and she is ready to make the step into WNBL and will be an exciting rookie to watch this year.”

Katie is the ninth signing announcement for the Caps, Jayda Clark, Jade Melbourne, Nicole Munger, Ella Tofaeono, Nyadiew Puoch, Chantel Horvat, Indiah Bowyer and Monique Bobongie.

“With a season of WNBL as a development player under my belt and 2 years of college, I feel prepared for this upcoming WNBL season with the Caps and really look forward to seeing where my game can go with this team.”
