Marianna Tolo back in time for Round 2

UC Capitals co-captain Marianna Tolo will be ready to play in Sunday’s clash against the Townsville Fire if all goes to plan this week.

“It’s a big relief. I had hoped to be back a lot earlier in pre-season but that’s just how it is.

“Pending training goes all well this week, I’m hoping to make my first game back this weekend so exciting times,” said Tolo.

Tolo spent the offseason trying to manage and recover from foot surgery following infections meaning that she hasn’t been on the court since a QBL game in April.

“It’s been a while but I’m confident that everyone on the court will help me to do my job and make my job a little bit easier.

Tolo was this week selected for the Australian Opals squad for the Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament coming up in November in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The WNBL will break during the FIBA window to allow players to make their national team commitments.

“It will be tough. This is the first time we’ve had to do that with Opals during the middle of the WNBL season to go on tour and play really important games.”

Tolo said she will have to balance her commitments to the club and the Opals while looking after herself. But ultimately, she knows that court time will help in her Tokyo preparations.
