Monique Bobongie signs with the UC Caps
The UC Capitals are thrilled to announce the signing of Monique Bobongie, a dynamic young talent set to make her mark in the Cygnett WNBL this season.
Monique has represented Mackay in rep and NBL1 North, as well as for Queensland. Her impressive credentials include representing Australia in four major tournaments: the U16 Asia Cup, U17 World Cup, U17 Oceania Cup, and U18 Asia Cup. In 2023, Monique was offered a scholarship at the Centre of Excellence, where she further honed her skills and played in the NBL1 for the CoE.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the UC Capitals,” Monique Bobongie told the UC Capitals.
“As I step into my first year in the WNBL, I couldn’t be happier to begin this journey with Canberra. Being part of the Centre of Excellence and living here for a while naturally drew me towards playing for the Capitals. Even before that, whether watching from home or from the stands, I admired their style of play and the strong sense of unity among the team. I’m confident I’m going to love being a part of the Capitals family.”
Monique’s hopes to elevate her game and continue to develop her skills under Head Coach Paul Goriss.
“With Gorrie’s experience and different coaching style, I’m eager to learn from him and make an impact with the team.”
Goriss shared his enthusiasm for Bobongie’s addition to the team, saying she has a very bright future ahead.
“Monique is an emerging talent in Australian basketball. She averaged 20 points and 8 rebounds per game for the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence in NBL1 East.
“Her development as a point guard/off guard will be a key focus this season. I pursued Monique very early because I believe she has a bright future ahead in the WNBL and on the international stage.
“Practicing and playing alongside someone like Jade will be invaluable for her growth. I’m excited to see Monique’s transition from junior to senior basketball. She is a special talent, and as her game matures, she will become a huge asset for the Capitals in the coming years.”
The UC Capitals are excited to welcome Monique Bobongie to the team alongside Jayda Clark, Jade Melbourne, Nicole Munger, Nyadiew Puoch, Ella Tofoaeono, Chantel Horvat and Indiah Bowyer. Join the Caps back at the AIS this season by purchasing a Membership when they go on sale September 13.
