Paul Goriss to return to UC Capitals Head Coach role
WNBL Championship Coach Paul Goriss will return to the Capitals Head Coaching role, with Kristen Veal stepping aside due to issues following knee surgery.
“Ongoing medical issues following major knee surgery prior to last season, unfortunately impacts my ability to coach and I’ve made the difficult decision to stand down,” said Veal. “Whilst disappointing, I realise the need to make health a priority and wish the Caps every success for season 2024/25.
Goriss, who has led the Capitals to championship victories in seasons 2018/19 and 2019/20, is an Assistant Coach of Atlanta Dream in the WNBA, and Assistant Coach for the Opals, brings a wealth of experience to the club.
“I am excited to be returning to the UC Capitals,” Goriss said. “The club holds a special place in my heart, and I am eager to continue building on what Kristen has created in this new era of the Caps.”
UC Director of Sport Carrie Graf thanked Veal for her commitment to the organisation whilst welcoming Goriss back to the role. “We fully support Kristen prioritising her health and we welcome Paul back to what I imagine is familiar territory. We’re incredibly excited about what the future holds for the UC Capitals and what the coming seasons will bring.” The Capitals will celebrate their 40th year in the upcoming WNBL season, with 2024/25 memberships soon to be launched.
