Maddi Rocci has been awarded Most Valuable Player for the UC Capitals at the awards event which was streamed online.

The accolades for Rocci continue, following her inclusion to the most recent Australian Opals squad, as the well deserved award recognizes her career season in the Queensland WNBL hub. Rocci averaged a career high 16 points per game which led the Caps to go with her trademark tough defense and toughness.

It was also a big night for co-captain Marianna Tolo who picked up the Players’ Player award to go with the ‘Kellie Abrams Defensive Player of the Year’. Despite battling with injuries to her foot throughout the season which limited her preparation for the season along with her minutes throughout, Tolo averaged over a block per game and particularly shined in the marquee matchups with the Southside Flyers and Liz Cambage, averaging 21 points, 7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 2 matchups.

Jade Melbourne collected the final award for the evening, the Capital on the Rise, after exploding on to the WNBL scene. Melbourne averaged 8.3 points per game in her rookie season,  highlighted by a 20 point outing against the Melbourne Boomers and a game winning 3 pointer to take the win over the Perth Lynx. Melbourne also created havoc for opposition guards, as she took on some of the toughest defensive assignments each night.
