Round 8 Preview: UC Capitals v Sydney Flames
From Melbourne to Sydney, the UC Capitals flew from one state to the next for their Round 8 game against the Sydney Flames.
With just one day between games, the Canberra team used their travel day to also rest and recover ahead of what will be another huge game for the side.
This will be the third time the two sides have met, their last encounter seeing the lead switching hands multiple times before Sydney claimed the win by 15 points. Rae Burrell was Canberra’s lead scorer with 27 points so will no doubt be covered with Flames players as they try to contain her potential.
All eyes will be on the bench for Canberra, as fans eagerly await Alison Schwagmeyer-Belger’s highly anticipated return to the court. Now travelling with the team, her first showing as a Cap is expected for any game now, with Head Coach Kristen Veal saying previously they’re just taking it day by day.
With Emilee Whittle-Harmon set to miss a few more games as she recovers from a knee injury, other players have been afforded bigger minutes including Bec Pizzey, who is expected to step up and muscle in against the Flames.
Canberra will need to look out for the shooting prowess of Shyla Heal and Keeley Froling who have ben consistently posting some pretty big numbers in each of their games.
This will be Canberra’s final game for 2022, so expect some fireworks. Head up the highway to Qudos Bank Arena for the 5pm showing, or tune in to 9Now.
The UC Capitals will be back at home on January 7 to take on the Townsville Fire.
