Round 9 Preview: UC Capitals primed to take on Perth
Two wins on the trot, and then a four-day break to spend Christmas with family and friends, the UC Capitals have now arrived in Perth, to take on the Lynx in Round 9 of the Cygnett WNBL.
Confidence is high following their 11-point win over Adelaide Lightning, with Jade Melbourne posting 31 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists, while Alex Sharp recorded yet another double double with a huge 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Speaking on the game, Sharp said she couldn’t be more proud to earn the wins with this team.
“I almost didn’t want to go on Christmas break, I just wanted to keep playing and keep that momentum going but it was really nice to go home with two wins under our belt, ahead of our game against Perth.”
However the team knows they will have their work cut out for them against Perth, and will all have to be at their best to get on top of them.
Perth sits comfortably in the top four and has threats across the court. Guard Aari McDonald is leading the league in average points per game, followed closely by Jade Melbourne who is on 18.6.
Alex Sharp will be returning to her former home court, where she spent three seasons as a Lynx.
“I’m pumped for it,” Sharp commented.
“I haven’t spent too much time thinking about it but I’m excited to go there with the team with the momentum we have.
“I back us and it’s a good match up, it’ll be a great game.”
The game tips off at 9:30pm AEDT and can be watched live on ESPN.
